Writing & Editing Hourly Rates.
(Also the 'Rates for Accounts' -Accounts are explained below):

You may need to wait a minute for the price tables to load...

Discount Rates
(Discounts if you book over 10 hours):

Hours need to be paid for in advance to get discounts.

Please note packages are not refundable.

Please discuss the time frame for work to be given to me and completed by -packages shouldn't drag on endlessly! All work must be done within 6 months maximum regardless of the package length bought (200 hours, etc) -for shorter packages like 10 hours we'd be looking for work to be given to me and completed within a month to six weeks max. I can get the work done sooner of course, & usually start work on it as soon as I'm given it -if the project allows- but this is more for clients who book packages and then don't give me the work to do for months! There needs to be an expiry date to packages so I can plan my workload effectively and know when to not take on more work, etc.

Scroll down to read more about how accounts work.

  • The 'Payment Options' buttons above take you to the 'Payment Options' webpage on this website rather than to a payment portal.

  • We have not set up obvious and immediate payment portals as we want to speak to you/clients first to check that we have the time to take on your/clients' work.

  • Please therefore email us on info@writersjournalist.com and get confirmation. If you know how many hours you require then let us know -if you have a fixed job and need assistance determining how long it will take then we can guide you once given enough information. After confirming that we can take on your work, we can give you bank and payment details so that you can make a payment.

Emergency Rate:

The rates above assume that there is no urgent deadline. If you have an urgent, last-minute job with a tight deadline, (and I have to rearrange my work schedule to accommodate it), then the emergency rate applies...

Emergency hourly rate: GBP £75 per hour

Discussing Your Project:

Picture

  • Initial consultations are usually on the phone (or via free online webcam platforms like Skype, Facetime). Email is also an option.

  • If you have a project that you want to discuss, or work on, in person then you can come to meet me or I can come to your office -please see the 'Locations' tab for more detail. (A consultation fee may apply -please enquire).

Daily Rates -Working in Offices,
or Working Full 8 Hour Days with Clients/Offices Remotely (e.g. via Skype):

  • Days are 8 hours long -they consist of eight hours of work and a one hour unpaid lunch break, e.g. 9am-6pm.

  • The tables above can be used to calculate these day, or weekly, rates. Obviously the more days you employ Natasha/the writer for, the more you will save on the hourly rate. Please ask for a quote if confused.

  • Travel costs may be additional.

  • Obviously working in your office is only possible if I/the writers are in your country. An alternatives is for the writer to work full days remotely but be in close contact with you/the client via Skype (if this is useful) -in that way it is similar to the writer being in the office as you can guide her according to what you need.

  • As mentioned above, please do not make any payments unless we have agreed that we can take on your work.

There Are Various Ways We Can Work Together...

Option 1:
Your Specific Methods of Working.
Relevant to certain companies who regularly employ writers, e.g. Magazine Editors...

If you represent a company who regularly employs journalists and writers then the methods of working described below may not apply. E.g. magazine editors looking for travel writers often pay all of their writers a fixed fee for articles or a price-per-word rate. Please contact me to discuss specific ways of working together (this only applies if your company fits the above criteria).

Option 2:
Quotes...

Picture

If I can give you a quote, then I will. In many cases quotes are not an option (for reasons explained below) and so clients use the Account / Hourly system described below. Please read on for more information and please enquire providing the information requested on the contact page.

Option 3:
Start an Account.
(Pre-pay for Writing Hours)...

Picture

Accounts explained:

  • Accounts work like pre-paid tabs. You choose how many hours of writing/editing that you would like and, when you pay for them, they are added to your account.  (The more hours you purchase, the lower the hourly rate).

  • Accounts are valid for a year from the date that they are opened. This means that you can use the hours you've purchased for up to a year after you open the account. I will keep a record of how many hours, or minutes, are used for each job.

  • With an account you will know that, if the piece takes me less time to write/edit than you have paid for, then you will have the remaining hours left to use. Consequently you can send me documents to write or edit in the future (until the account hours are used up). If you have requested a quote then, as always, there is no refund if the job takes less time than anticipated.

  • Full payment needs to be made in advance to get the discounted rates (if you pay for 10 hours + you get a discounted hourly rate, 20 hours + = further discounts, etc -please see the drop down menus under the 'Information and Rates' menu tab.

  • Accounts save you money -e.g. if you do not have an account and need a 20 minute edit then you need to pay for one hour as this is the minimum amount of time a payment can be made for. However if you have an account, I will just subtract the twenty minutes that the edit took from your account time/hours paid -instead of charging you for a whole hour.

  •  If you have lots of small writing/editing jobs then paying for several hours in one go also saves time making several small payments.

Why Accounts are Useful and Why it can be Hard to Give a Quote:

Working on a price-per-hour basis simplifies things since it is often difficult, or impossible, to judge how long a project will take and so to give a quote.

Sometimes, it can take an hour or a few hours to evaluate all the reading and work needed and then come up with a quote. It can be frustrating to invest that time if the client then doesn't book hence this system.

If you prefer an overall quote, and I can judge the time involved easily, then I will give you a quote. (This sometimes also applies to large pieces of work).

Alternatively I often ask for the first hour, or first few hours, (depending on the complexity of the piece) to be paid for at the hourly rate. After this, I will have a better idea of how long the document will take to write or edit. I can then give a quote for the total cost to write or edit the document.

You will always have the option to use the straightforward and simple hourly account system. The hourly system is the easiest way to make sure that the prices remain fair for both the client and the writer / myself. (With this system I will not over-estimate, or under-estimate how long a project will take).

Nb. Please take into account the time needed for research when deciding how many hours to add to your account. We can discuss this and I can, in many cases,
give you a rough estimate of how long the work will take.

I work fast.

Option 4:
Day Rates for Working in Offices
or With Clients In-Person...

Please see the drop down menu pages for rates.

Travel details re working in-offices or with clients in person:

  • There is no extra fee for my travel time in London (zones 1-3) and Dubai if you are booking a full day (8 hours +).
  • Please see the 'locations' tab for more detail.
  • If individual clients want to sit with me in person, e.g. to co-write a document, then this is possible. I don't go to people's homes but we can meet in another location e.g. coffee shop, library, etc. Please enquire.
  • Working together via online webcam platforms e.g Skype, FaceTime, Google Hangouts, etc, is also an option for both clients and companies and it eliminates travel costs.

Option 5:
Price-Per-Word Rates...

I have not used this system before but I am happy to consider it for certain suitable projects. We can discuss a price-per-word rate if your project does not require a huge amount of research. Generally the hourly rate (or quote) system is far more straight-forward and simpler so I prefer it. The per-word rate varies and depends upon the assignment.
